About Mia’s World
Mia was born on May 4, 2015, weighing only 4 pounds; prior to birth Mia was diagnosed with Down Syndrome, 2 holes in her heart (ASD and VSD), and an intestinal obstruction (Duodenal Atresia). Mia was hospitalized for the first 23 days of her life in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. On her second day of life she underwent major surgery to correct the obstruction in her small intestines, realign her large and small intestines, and remove her appendix. Following surgery, Mia received all of her feedings via tube for the first 2 weeks of her life then slowly began receiving 1 teaspoon of formula at a time.
In her short life, Mia has also been diagnosed with conductive hearing loss resulting in additional surgeries to drain fluid from behind her ears. She has global developmental delays and has received speech therapy, physical therapy and occupational therapy every week, since she was 6 months old. However, regardless of all that Mia has endured, she is one of the happiest children we have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Mia exudes a love for life and a care for others that can only come from God.
On Sundays, our family attends and serves at 12 Stone Church in Buford Georgia, but one particular Sunday seemed different. While visiting another church, just like any other Sunday, Mia was welcomed and greeted by many, and stopped numerous times just to say hello and give someone a healing hug. After three years of doing this, we are used to Mia stopping to hug and share her love with the people in our community. However, on this day, Mia stopped at an elderly man who was probably in his 80’s, to share with him her love including a smile and a hug. The older gentleman had tears in his eyes, from the show of love that he received from Mia. He looked up at us, grateful and said, “God told me in my dream that he was going to send an angel to comfort me. My granddaughter died in her sleep at the age of 3, and I was never able to tell her goodbye. My granddaughter used to hug me just as your daughter just hugged me, and for a brief moment I thought I was hugging my granddaughter. After I opened my eyes, I realized that it was the angel that God had promised he would send to comfort me.”
Our Mission
In appreciation of Mia’s love and our love for Mia, we have decided to start MIA’S World, Ministries In Action (www.miasworld.org). MIA’S World, Ministries In Action, is a non-profit organization and ministry that serve families and individuals who have been affected by Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities, substance abuse, domestic violence, hunger, and/or financial issues. Our first goal with Mia’s World is to raise a building fund so that MIA’s World has no debt once completed. We will then begin building MIA’s World with a Thrift Store, addiction counseling, developmental disabilities services, hunger services, domestic violence services, and finances. In MIA’S World, to help support all of the services and ministries within MIA’S World, the funds and resources from the Thrift Store will allow us to accomplish this.
We Need Your Help
Our community is facing problems that MIA’S World is trying to aid. While we are actively working within our community, we need your help to make our efforts go further. MIA’S World relies on funding from a variety of sources including corporations, foundations, individual donors and special events. MIA’S World does not operate to build wealth or revenue. The main goal of MIA’S World is to generate funds and volunteer assistance to help further our ministries.
You can help MIA’S World, and your support is crucial to our efforts. If you are able, we would love it if you could make a one-time donation, or weekly, monthly, or yearly donation to help us achieve our missions and provide aid and ministries within our community. Finally, in our building, we plan to have a Donor’s Room for anyone who contributes at least $10 monthly, so please send your prayers, letters, pictures, and cards to display in our Donor’s Room and to show your support for MIA’S World.
